OK, this is totally spur-of-the-moment for me. My friend Rich Hopkins started this challenge yesterday using a new blog of his (here). There are a number of things that I have been needing to do for myself and my family that just haven't been getting done, so I am accepting his challenge, and will start listing my goals and progress here.
To summarize the challenge: Every day we make choices. Whether it's what we eat, what we say, or what actions we take, we are each ultimately responsible for our results. Over the next 91 days, Rich and I and others will be chronicling our progress on some of our goals. Rich wants to take the leap from Acceptable to Exceptional, while I want to help everyone Be Able to be the person they WANT to be. (I also have a newsletter called Being Able, and you can sign up for that at my website here: www.AbelGoddard.com.)
This being the first post, here are some of my goals. I may add to them eventually, but I hope to not take any away (until they're done, anyway).
1. I need to be more healthy. Rich's goal for the 91 days is 30 pounds, and I think that's a good number for me to achieve as well. I need to lose more, but we all have to start somewhere.
2. Speaking. I'm scheduled to give a 30 minute speech in July, that I haven't really started on. It's for my church, but I promise to be circumspect in how I report my progress. In addition, I do want to get back into Toastmasters and speak more regularly, so I need to find a club that works for me. Finding the club sounds easy, but my schedule is so up in the air that I really need to put some thought and planning into how to achieve that goal. I'll call these two goals 2A and 2B.
3. Writing. I mentioned my newsletter earlier, but I haven't sent a real edition out since last year. I need to write more in general, so that I can send out more newsletters and help more people. My newsletter goal is 6 more editions by the end of the 91 days. Writing in this blog every day is the other writing challenge. So, that's 3A and 3B.
That's it for now. I do have some other goals, but they're small in scope and/or short term, and I'd rather focus this blog on my big goals' progress.
I hope you join us in this challenge, and achieve some goals you've had for a long time but have never acted on. Join us. Report your goals and your progress and your challenges. If there's anything I can do to help you Be Able to be the person you want to be, let me know. I want to help.
